The Chronicles of SpellbornThe Chronicles of Spellborn was officially released in the US last week, offering a free client download and a 2 week free premium trial period, ending on May 7th. Good timing, I suppose, as I was looking for something to try over the weekend. So I downloaded the 3+gb client with an open mind and little expectations. The client downloaded rather quickly and installed without issue. A small patch ensued upon my initial connection, per any MMO. A Shardship in the Distance When I finally logged into the game, I must say I was very surprised at what I found. If any of you are familiar with Weis and Hickman’s Death Gate Cycle book series, you will feel that it heavily influenced this game’s design. And it was done beautifully. The House of Rune The character creation screen is pretty robust. You have 2 races to choose from: human or Daevi. There are no differences in the races other than cosmetic. You have your typical male/female choice, then you choose your archetype: Warrior, Rogue, or Spellcaster. Each 3 archetypes have 3 disciplines to choose from when you reach level 5. You then choose your appearance. The character models are a bit cheesy, for the most part, but you can find some decent ones to make your self look a bit “normal.” Posted in Other MMO's | 3 Comments »Revitalizing a dying MMOSo today I received an email with the following subject line, “Don’t get left out in the cold, Vanguard is heating up! Check it out!”. In my opinion, after going from 16 servers to 4 (or whatever it was), they should just let the flame go out and retire one of the most pathetic MMO’s ever released. Estiah Browser GameFor the past couple of months I have been playing numerous multi-player browser games and kept promising the PPF Members here that I’d write up some blog reviews on them. Of the 15 or so games I found I’m really only playing a couple now and the best one, in my opinion, is Estiah. This game has it all. It begins with an exceptional, clean, user interface that offers easy navigation with a Tutorial link in the top right corner of every section. For those that enjoy a good story, I’m not one but from the few I’ve read they are very well written. The daily activities can include gathering materials to build guild buildings or selling them for a profit, dungeon crawling with a unique story line for the 20+ dungeons, entering an Arena to fight NPC monsters, finding and taming a pet to race or fight against other player pets and, of course, Player vs. Player action. And if that’s not enough there’s literally a skill for every single activity broken down into five (from what I’ve found so far) categories: Trade Skills, Renown, Battle, Evolution and Class. And that’s just the beginning, not only do you have numerous activities you also have three tiers of classes. First choice comes at level 20, then again at 30 and finally 40. At 40, there is a total of 12 classes to pick from but your choices at the first two tiers will reflect what you can choose at level 40. For example, if you want to become a Warlord you’ll need to select either Scout or Recruit at level 20 and either Rogue or Guard at level 30. You also have to plan your character out attribute wise as each class requires certain attributes to be raised to a specific value. Home is similar to LInden Lab’s Second Life in that it lets people create virtual characters, or avatars, to interact in cyberspace. PlayStation 3 users will be able to join the virtual world through a free software download. Posted in Other MMO's | No Comments » |
